He is believed to have been martyred in Rome, where he was crucified upside down at his own request, as he did not feel worthy to die in the same manner as Jesus. Devotion to Saint Apostle Peter is widespread among Orthodox Christians, who turn to him for guidance, protection, and intercession in times of need. His feast day is celebrated on June 29th in the Eastern Orthodox Church and on June 29th in the Roman Catholic Church.
