MonkMartyr Korniliy of Pskov-Pechersk MonkMartyr Korniliy of Pskov-Pechersk, also known as Cornelius of Pskov, was a Russian Orthodox monk who lived during the late 14th and early 15th centuries. He is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
St. Korniliy was a monk at the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery, located in the city of Pskov, Russia. He was known for his ascetic life, prayerfulness, and dedication to serving God. He was also known for his compassion towards the poor and needy, often giving away his own possessions to help those in need.
During the time of his life, the Pskov region was frequently raided by enemies, and St. Korniliy bravely defended the monastery and its inhabitants from these attacks. He was known for his courage and steadfast faith in the face of danger.
St. Korniliy eventually became a martyr for his faith. He was captured by enemy forces and subjected to torture and martyrdom for refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs. He was killed for his faith, and his memory is honored by the faithful as a witness to the truth of Christ.
St. Korniliy is venerated as a saint and martyr in the Eastern Orthodox Church, with his feast day celebrated on October 20th. He is often depicted in icons as a monk wearing a black robe and holding a cross, symbolizing his martyrdom and steadfast faith.
Saint Korniliy of Pskov-Pechersk, pray for us!
