He was captured by enemy forces and subjected to torture and martyrdom for refusing to renounce his Christian beliefs. He was killed for his faith, and his memory is honored by the faithful as a witness to the truth of Christ. St. Korniliy is venerated as a saint and martyr in the Eastern Orthodox Church, with his feast day celebrated on October 20th.
