Vienna chairs - comfortable, beautiful, stylish.

It is a timeless classic, appropriate in different interior styles (both classic and modern) and in different situations (in houses and apartments, in restaurants and bars).

What is this model? How does it differ? And is it possible to produce a Vienna chair on a CNC machine? What 3d models will help you in this.

This is the subject of today's article.

A few facts from history:

Vienna chair is considered the most comfortable in the world, which is due to the correct height, seat depth and a certain curve of the back. The Viennese cabinetmaker Michael Thonet managed to achieve this effect. In the middle of the 19th century, this craftsman became interested in the technology of processing wood with water vapor, which made it possible to create bizarre bent shapes.

Michael created more than 10 models of bent wood chairs and his 14th model was recognized by the public as very comfortable.

It is interesting that the chair was originally conceived to be collapsible, the elements were to be connected by metal fasteners, which made the production of the chair as economical as possible, and the product itself - extremely cheap. However, in the future the design was optimized and there was only one screw for fastening.

Another curious fact - to prove the strength of "Viennese" chairs, one of the trading companies in 1889 threw them off the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And the chairs remained intact, which could not fail to impress the public and attract its attention to this model.

The classic Viennese chair had standard dimensions. The height with the backrest - 84 cm, the height from the floor to the seat - 46 cm. And the depth of the seat - 41 cm.

Today, of course, these standards are not always observed. And "Viennese" began to be called any chairs with a high rounded back, with thin bent legs.

Vienna chair, invented in 1840, has become such a cult and popular model that repeatedly modified and produced in new designs, depending on the manufacturer, country, style.

Chairs with different backs, with carved legs appeared. Chairs made of different wood species and even metal. Vienna chairs, painted in bright colors.  And so on. The imagination of designers is inexhaustible. But the base remains the base.

Despite the low price, initially such chairs were the subject of the furnishings of rich houses and restaurants. But gradually the Viennese chair became a democratic piece of furniture and ubiquitous.

Features of the Viennese chair:

  • Standard design - four bent legs, rounded back, seat.
  • Practicality.
  • Versatility (suitable both for the kitchen, and for the bedroom, living room, nursery, will be appropriate in all classical interiors, in modern styles, in any other interiors).
  • Light weight and at the same time high strength.
  • Elegant appearance, attracting attention with its nobility.
  • Large selection of models.
  • Moderate cost.
  • Long service life.

Production and materials:

Most often Viennese chairs are made of beech. This material is the most plastic and well bendable. But often used and other types of wood, such as alder, ash, oak (predominantly hardwoods).

In some cases, budget models are made of LDF and MDF.

There are also metal chairs or combined (part wood, part metal).

Vienna chairs are often lacquered and painted in different colors.

In some cases, they are also supplemented with a decorative seat cushion.

An interesting solution is Vienna chairs with carved legs or with a decorative backrest. It is possible to get such variants with the help of a CNC machine. Thus, the classic Viennese chair will acquire a new sound and get a more refined and attractive appearance.

CNC machines and 3d models:

Machines produce chairs or elements for them (it can be legs, backrest or decorative overlays) extremely quickly, qualitatively and precisely. At the same time, the machine with program control allows you to create a decor of any complexity on the material.

The backrest with exquisite curls, original sharpened legs and other decorative elements can literally transform the basic Viennese chair and make it fundamentally different.

To obtain a quality finished product with extremely accurate drawing of the decor requires a suitable source - that is, 3d model of the future product. It is with its help the machine, thanks to programming, understands what and on what trajectory to cut.

Therefore, the choice of model should be approached responsibly.

It must be:

  • High-quality,
  • Made in Stl format,
  • Adapted for CNC machines,
  • And suitable for your design.
