Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God The Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God is one of the most venerated icons in the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is believed to be one of the icons painted by the Evangelist Luke himself. The icon is named after the town of Tikhvin in Russia, where it was housed for many centuries. According to tradition, the icon was discovered in the 14th century by a group of fishermen on Lake Ladoga. It miraculously appeared floating on the water, surrounded by a radiant light. The fishermen brought the icon to the local church, but it disappeared three times, only to reappear in its original place on the lake. This was seen as a sign that the icon wanted to be housed in Tikhvin. The Tikhvin Icon is considered a protector of Russia and has been attributed with numerous miracles throughout history. It is especially venerated by the Russian people, who consider it a symbol of hope and protection. Today, the Tikhvin Icon is housed in the Tikhvin Assumption Monastery in Russia, where it continues to be a source of inspiration and devotion for Orthodox Christians around the world. Pilgrims from far and wide come to venerate the icon and seek the intercession of the Mother of God.
