Kazan Icon of the Mother of God The Kazan icon of the Mother of God is one of the most revered icons in the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is believed to be a miraculous icon that dates back to the 16th century. The icon depicts the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus in her arms, with both figures looking out towards the viewer.
The icon is named after the city of Kazan in Russia, where it was discovered in 1579. According to tradition, the icon appeared to a young girl named Matrona in a vision, instructing her to tell the bishop to unearth the icon from the ashes of a burned-down house. When the icon was found, it was believed to have miraculous powers and was credited with numerous healings and other miracles.
The Kazan icon of the Mother of God is venerated by Orthodox Christians around the world, and many churches and monasteries have copies of the icon for prayer and veneration. It is considered a symbol of protection and intercession, and believers often pray to the Mother of God through this icon for help and guidance in times of need. The feast day of the Kazan icon is celebrated on July 8th in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
