Saint Alexis Saint Alexis, also known as Alexis of Rome, was a 4th-century Christian saint and martyr. He is venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church and is considered one of the Holy Unmercenary Healers.
According to tradition, Saint Alexis was born into a wealthy Roman family but chose to live a life of poverty and service to the poor. He secretly left his family and traveled to Edessa, where he lived as a beggar outside the church of Saint James. He spent the rest of his life in prayer, fasting, and serving the sick and needy.
Saint Alexis is often depicted in icons as a humble beggar, holding a staff and a scroll with the inscription "I am a servant of Christ." He is shown with a long beard and wearing ragged clothing, symbolizing his renunciation of worldly wealth and status in favor of spiritual riches.
Saint Alexis is revered by Orthodox Christians as a model of selfless service, humility, and devotion to God. His feast day is celebrated on March 17th in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Icons of Saint Alexis are venerated as windows to the spiritual realm, where the presence of the saint is believed to intercede on behalf of the faithful.
