Flor and Laurus

Flor and Laurus Flor and Laurus, also known as the Holy Martyrs Florus and Laurus, are saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church who are venerated as martyrs and healers. They are traditionally depicted in Orthodox iconography together, often holding a cross and a martyr"s crown. According to tradition, Florus and Laurus were brothers who lived in the 2nd century in the city of Byzantium (modern-day Istanbul). They were skilled stonemasons and architects who were known for their craftsmanship and their Christian faith. When they refused to participate in pagan rites, they were martyred for their beliefs. Flor and Laurus are especially venerated in Russia, where they are considered the patron saints of architects and builders. Their feast day is celebrated on August 18th in the Eastern Orthodox Church. In Orthodox iconography, Flor and Laurus are usually depicted as young men with short hair and beards, wearing traditional Roman attire.
