Saint Seraphim of Sarov Saint Seraphim of Sarov, also known as Seraphim of Sarov, is one of the most beloved saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He was born in 1754 in Kursk, Russia, and became a monk at the age of 27. Saint Seraphim lived as a hermit in the forests near the Sarov Monastery, where he dedicated himself to a life of prayer, fasting, and asceticism. Saint Seraphim is known for his deep spirituality, his gift of healing, and his ability to see into the hearts of those who came to him for guidance. He is also known for his famous quote, "Acquire the Spirit of Peace and a thousand souls around you will be saved." Iconography of Saint Seraphim often depicts him in a simple monk"s robe, with a long beard and a gentle expression on his face. He is usually shown holding a staff or a cross, symbolizing his dedication to the Christian faith. Many Orthodox Christians venerate Saint Seraphim as a powerful intercessor and a source of spiritual inspiration. His relics are enshrined in the Diveyevo Convent in Russia, where they continue to draw pilgrims from around the world seeking his prayers and blessings. Saint Seraphim of Sarov was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1903, and his feast day is celebrated on January 2nd.
