Panzerkampfwagen IV The Panzerkampfwagen IV, commonly known as the Panzer IV, was a German medium tank used during World War II. It was one of the most widely produced German tanks of the war, with over 8,500 units built from 1936 to 1945.
The Panzer IV was originally designed as a support tank, intended to provide fire support for infantry and engage enemy armored vehicles. It was armed with a 75mm main gun, which was later upgraded to a more powerful 75mm KwK 40 gun to improve its anti-tank capabilities.
The Panzer IV had a crew of five and was powered by a Maybach HL 120TRM V-12 engine, giving it a top speed of around 25 mph. It had a relatively thick armor for its time, with frontal armor up to 80mm thick.
The Panzer IV saw action on all fronts of the war and was used in a variety of roles, including as a main battle tank, command tank, and tank destroyer. It was eventually phased out in favor of more advanced tanks like the Panther and Tiger series.
Overall, the Panzer IV was a versatile and reliable tank that played a significant role in the German military during World War II.
