USS Yorktown The USS Yorktown (CV-10) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy. It was commissioned in April 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the war. The Yorktown participated in many major battles, including the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war, the USS Yorktown was used as a training carrier and was modernized to serve in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It continued to serve in various roles until it was decommissioned in 1970. Today, the USS Yorktown is a museum ship at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
