Lotus Elite (Mk1) (Type 14) 1957 The Lotus Elite (Mk1) (Type 14) was a groundbreaking sports car produced by Lotus Cars from 1957 to 1963. It was designed by Peter Kirwan-Taylor and aerodynamically styled by Peter Kirwan-Taylor. The Elite was one of the first production cars to use a fiberglass monocoque body, which made it lightweight and efficient.
The Lotus Elite was powered by a 1.2-liter Coventry Climax FWE straight-4 engine, producing around 75 horsepower. This engine was mounted behind the rear axle, giving the Elite excellent weight distribution and handling characteristics. The car featured a four-speed manual gearbox.
