EMD E7 NYCRR Train The EMD E7 was a streamlined passenger train locomotive used by the New York Central Railroad (NYCRR) in the 1940s and 1950s. It was part of the EMD E-unit series of locomotives, which were known for their distinctive "bulldog nose" design. The E7 was a diesel-electric locomotive, meaning it used a diesel engine to power an electric generator which in turn drove the wheels. The NYCRR used the E7 locomotives primarily for passenger service on its mainline routes, such as the famous 20th Century Limited between New York City and Chicago. The E7 was known for its sleek appearance and high performance, capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The EMD E7 locomotives were eventually replaced by newer models in the 1960s, but they remain a popular choice among railroad enthusiasts and collectors. Today, several E7 locomotives have been preserved in museums and are occasionally used for special excursions and events.
