B 17 F Memphis Belle The B-17F Flying Fortress "Memphis Belle" was a famous World War II bomber aircraft. It was one of the first B-17 bombers to complete 25 combat missions over Europe, a feat that was heavily publicized and celebrated as a morale booster for the American public. The crew of the "Memphis Belle" became celebrities and were sent back to the United States to go on a war bond tour to raise funds for the war effort. The aircraft is now preserved and on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.
