Plasma cutting machines. Features of machines. Models.

In this article we will tell you about the differences between plasma CNC machines, what they are designed for, what they are used to make. You can order models for any CNC machines, including plasma cutting machines. In addition, we offer ready-made 3D models on our website. See our extensive catalog!

About plasma cutting machines, design features:

Such a machine is usually placed on a rigid stationary structure. Includes: a work table for placing the material, drive system (designed to be responsible for the movement of the cutting tool), power supply (respectively, to supply current of a certain strength), compressor (to supply pressurized gas to the nozzle), torch (plasmatron, designed to cut the material) and control program input unit (includes interface board, controller and computer).

Purpose:

Plasma cutting machines most often cut sheet material. It can be any kind of steel (ferrous, galvanized, stainless steel), cast iron, various metals.

Can be used when it is necessary to cut pipes of different types or when the need to create some parts, especially if they have a complex shape.

In addition, with the help of such machines often make blanks.

Advantages:

CNC plasma cutting machines have a number of advantages:

  • Processing of any metal, including ferrous, non-ferrous, refractory and so on,
  • High cutting speed, especially for small and medium thicknesses,
  • Minimal local heating of the part, eliminating deformation,
  • High quality of cut surface, cleanliness,
  • Safety,
  • Possibility of making complex shaped cuts, the ability to work with products of any shape, the ability to create holes and grooves of any geometry.

Principle of operation:

A plasma jet acts as a cutting tool. Gas is supplied to the nozzle under pressure, electric arc converts it into a plasma jet with high temperature, capable of reaching up to 30 thousand degrees, and with high speed. The nozzles are cooled by air or liquid. The latter are more often used in high power installations. Depending on the material, the gases used during cutting are selected. For example, for cutting ferrous metals active gases (oxygen, air). And for cutting non-ferrous metals and alloys inactive gases (nitrogen, argon, hydrogen).

How to choose?

Most often, a CNC machine with plasma cutting is chosen according to the following characteristics, evaluating it:

  • Versatility is it possible to use the machine only for cutting metal or is it suitable for other functions, for example, for welding with a piece electrode, argon-arc welding. However, universal devices usually do not cope with metal thicker than 11 mm.
  • Current strength the higher the current strength, the higher the heating and the faster the cutting. And the higher the efficiency. This includes easier cutting and cutting of materials with large thicknesses.
  • Type of network not all work from 220V, industrial devices require a network of 380V.
  • Operating time it is determined by the power-on time (POI), the basic operating cycle is 10 minutes. If the SP is 70%, the device will work for about 7 minutes and then cool down for 3 minutes. At the same time, there are devices with different SP. It can be 40%. But it can be 100%, if water cooling is used.
  • The presence of a compressor CNC machines with plasma cutting can be equipped with both built-in and separately connected compressors. For household use, it is more convenient to use options with built-in compressor, for professional use are more suitable with connected, because in this case the power of the product is not reduced.
  • Dimensions machines can be more compact, and can be quite bulky.

Thus, it is important to understand what products you plan to create on this device and, based on this, choose a machine. Whether it will be more of a household or professional machine.
