What are bas-relief and high relief?
- Bas-relief is a type of applied art, in which the picture on the background is not drawn, but cut out and slightly protrudes above the surface of the background.
- High relief - can be called a type of sculpture. And a type of bas-relief. The image here will be even more convex and three-dimensional.
Bas-reliefs and high reliefs are intended for consideration only from one side - from the front, frontal part (unlike a full-fledged sculpture).
The background and the convex relief are most often made of the same material. The relief is carved into the material or cut out, in some cases sculpted or created using casting techniques.
