The figure of Christ standing in an open tomb was a frequent subject in the pictorial art of the period, but the writer does not remember one in which the attitude of our Lord is precisely the sas in the present instance. The Sèvres Catalogue suggests the piece may have been made at Cafaggiolo : there is no evidence that maiolica was manufactured at Cafaggiolo previous to about a.d. 1500. D. 275 mm. Sèvres Museum.
